H.E President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in a Decree Appointed a Joint Commission to Protect Human Rights Activists

H.E Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, issued a decree to establish a commission to protect human rights activists.
The commission consists of the Attorney General, the Minister of Justice, the Minister of Interior, the Minister of Women's Affairs, the Chairman of the Independent Commission on Human Rights, the Director-General of National Security, the Director-General of the Independent Directorate of Local Governance, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Representative of the Supreme Court, Representatives from the Directorate of Legal, Legislative and the judiciary of Administrative Office of the President and representatives of civil society organizations working for human rights.
According to the decree, the commission will begin its work by preparing and approving the commission's procedures, prioritizing the commission's tasks in protecting human rights defenders, drafting a coherent, comprehensive, and joint plan with NGOs working for human rights. Also, to draw the mechanism for the protection of human rights activists in Afghanistan, obtaining the views of domestic and foreign human rights advocates in Afghanistan, establishing coordination between government and non-government organizations, reviewing the plans and proposals of human rights defenders of Afghanistan, and report to the High Council of Rule of Law and Governance.
The decree also states that the Independent Human Rights Commission has the secretariat responsible for protecting Human Rights Activists.
