An Export Processing Zone To Be Established In Kabul
November 27th, 2023- A coordination meeting was held under the leadership of Engineer Ahmad Zia Khalid, Investment Facilitation Director with the relevant institutions about the transfer of the 100 acres of land of the Ministry of Public Works to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce for the establishment of an export processing zone in Kabul, based on the order of Estemmed Amirul-Momineen.
The meeting was held in the compound of the General Directorate of Administrative Affairs and the attendees of the meeting were the representatives of the ministries of Industry & Commerce, Public Works, Agriculture, Irrigation & Livestock, Rural Rehabilitation & Development, Finance, and the Kabul Municipality.
During this meeting, the Director of Investment Facilitation asked the relevant ministries to cooperate with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce in the establishment of an export processing zone and added that the infrastructures of the ministries are our national assets and we must look after them.
Meanwhile, Ihsanullah Fitrat, Director for Exports Affairs of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce said, the establishment of an export processing zone plays a significant role in the economic development and facilitates the packaging, processing, and transfer of quality goods.
Mr. Fitrat added that due to the non-existence of export processing zones, Afghanistan suffers about four billion dollars annually.
After the meeting, Engineer Ahmed Zia Khalid, Director of Investment Facilitation, along with the representatives of related institutions, inspected the mentioned land closely and all sides pledged to cooperate comprehensively for the establishment of the export processing zone.
