Meeting Held on Treatment, Protection, and Prevention of Re-addiction of Drug-Addicted Individuals

On July 25, 2026, the Director of Policy and Strategy at the General Directorate of Administrative Affairs, Mufti Abdul Wahid Usmani, chaired a meeting attended by representatives from the Ministries of Interior, Public Health, Higher Education, Education, Hajj and Religious Affairs, Labor and Social Affairs, Finance, Transport and Civil Aviation, and Information and Culture, as well as Kabul Municipality, the Technical and Vocational Education Authority, and the Afghan Red Crescent Society, to evaluate the work report of the Committee for the Treatment, Protection, and Prevention of Re-addiction of Drug-Addicted Individuals.

At the outset, the Director of Policy and Strategy commended the committee's efforts and achievements and stated that, Alhamdulillah, the Islamic Emirate has provided significant services to a segment of society that had been used as a project during the former administration. He added that the Islamic Emirate has created opportunities for their treatment, rehabilitation, and return to normal life.

Following this, representatives of the committee, led by the Office of the Deputy Minister for Counter-Narcotics of the Ministry of Interior Affairs, presented information on their assigned responsibilities. According to them, a total of 12 treatment centers for drug-addicted individuals are currently operating across the country. In addition to medical treatment, these centers provide educational programs, vocational training, religious instruction, and cash assistance.

In conclusion, after hearing the committee members' report, the Director of Policy and Strategy instructed them to convene a special meeting under the leadership of the Office of the Deputy Minister for Counter-Narcotics, pay closer attention to their assigned responsibilities, examine the existing challenges and possible solutions related to the treatment of drug-addicted individuals, and share the final report with the Policy and Strategy Directorate of the General Directorate of Administrative Affairs.

The meeting, which began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, concluded with a prayer for goodwill.
