General Directorate of Sport and Physical Training

The General Directorate for Physical Education and Sports, as a budgetary unit of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, is responsible, under Article 52 of the Constitution, for leadership, coordination, growth, expansion and development of sports.

The secondary units of the Directorate General for Physical Education and Sports operates in 33 provinces of Afghanistan under the leadership of this directorate, which is responsible for leadership, coordination, and expansion of sports across provinces.

Afghanistan has participated in all games of International Olympic Committee after the becoming its member, with the exception of games not held based on global factors. Afghanistan also gained the Asian Olympic Council’s membership in 1951 and participated in all its Games.
